Anzac Day 2020

2020 is the first time since 1919 ANZAC Day services have been cancelled.

PAY YOUR RESPECTS AT HOME WITH A DAWN DRIVEWAY SERVICE.

The national campaign is called “Light up the Dawn”.

Get involved and be at the end of your driveway tomorrow morning STARTING AT 5.30AM.

What Do I Need?

  • Mobile phone – broadcast the service with your mobile phone by listening live on ABC radio (that is where you will be able to listen to the official National Commemorative Service live from the Australian War Memorial in Canberra).
  • Remember to follow social distancing rules – stay 1.5 metres apart.

When Will The 1 Minute Silence Begin?

This will begin at 6am.

Firstly, the Ode will be read.

Laurence Binyon wrote a poem called “For the Fallen” and the ode is a section of that poem.

The Ode is:

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them”

Then, the Last Post will be sounded.

Listen to the Last Post below:

Once the Last Post has been sounded, 1 minute’s silence will begin.

This is when we remain silent and remember those who have fallen, and those who have been wounded in all conflicts.

After 1 minute, the Reveille will be sounded (a bugle call).

Then the national anthems for Australia and New Zealand will play.

What If I Want To Watch The Official Service?

You can tune into ABC at 10am for the special broadcast.

Alternatively, there will be a broadcast at 11.30am with the reading of The Ode, sounding the Final Post and marketing 1 minute’s silence.
